Get to Know The Master Artisans That Will Be at LDCSummit 2019 – Every day we have more and more details for you of the Luxury Design & Craftsmanship Summit that will happen this June 26th and 27th, and today we have a special one for you. You already know some of the craftsmanship techniques that will be present at the Summit, today you will get to know the Master Artisans, the ones that builds and transform design with their hands!
Mr. Victor Querido
Fascinated by wood, he is now a celebrated master in the Portuguese marquetry art. He started to work as a woodcarver when he was 16 years old. At the age of 18, he decided to dedicate himself to marquetry due to the beautiful ornaments he could create freely and by coloring, by himself wood veneers into unique hues. Today, he challenges a new narrative of marquetry at CULTURE Creative Hub, proudly supported by Covet Foundation.
Presenting the art of Wood Marquetry, the process of applying thin wood pieces to a structure to form decorative patterns, designs or even pictures. The wood veneers are drawn, cut, colored and burnt, and placed using different cutting tools, glue, and temperatures.
Mr. Fernando Abreu
Mr. Fernando Abreu, is a goldsmith with more than 40 years mastering metal work, which creates objets d’art that straddle the line between the fine and decorative arts. Currently, he challenges the narrative of goldsmith at Preggo company here at Covet Group.
Mr Abreu will be presenting the Chiseling technique, an ancient technique which allows the sculpture of a metal sheet which can be silver, gold, brass or copper. With the chisel’s help, decorative motifs are transferred to the metal sheet forming volumes, reliefs and finest textures.
Mr. Julio Campos Leal
Júlio Campos Leal, born on 18 January 1963, is a wood carver and sculptor from Meixomil, Paços de Ferreira, known as Portugal’s capital of furniture. Wood carving is his chosen art since he was 14 years old. In 1989, 10 years ago, he began his collaboration with designers and furniture creators. Since then, he brings to life high-quality luxury pieces which are applied to contemporary design.
Mr. José Cunha
The Portuguese master artisan Mr José Cunha started working as a cabinetmaker when he was 13 years old, later, he specialized himself in the art of wood carving. He’s also truly dedicated to inlaid wood art, one of his multiple passions. Mr Cunha still works as a wood carver nowadays, collaborating with other master artisans and designers at Project CULTURE’s workshops, supported by Covet Foundation.
Presenting the Inlaid Wood, an ancient decorative technique used in the ancient Egypt, it’s main features are the overlay of geographic elements or figures over a wooden base, that can be composed of marble, metals, pearl and other noble materials, made in a thin layer over the wood.
