Pavilhão Multiusos de Gondomar, designed by Álvaro Siza Vieira.
The 2018 edition of the Luxury Design & Craftsmanship Summit will take place in one of Porto’s neighboring town: Gondomar.
Gondomar, most notably know because of its jewelry heritage, becomes now the center stage where creative minds from the design and arts industry will meet to discuss the future of the luxury design world, hopefully providing us with a new perspective on this highly competitive market, as well as new ideas on how to keep elevating and honoring the importance of craftsmanship in product design.
The two day event and the panels will be happening in Gondomar’s own Pavilhão Multiusos de Gondomar, a structure designed by the renowned Portuguese architect Álvaro Siza Veira, which was first opened in 2007.
There will be an opening ceremony on June 20, where attendees will have the opportunity to see master artisans live, as they do what they know best in the fields of Portuguese tiles, better known as ‘azulejo‘, wood, as well as other ancient crafts.
After the opening ceremony, the panels and debates will begin. The Value of Craftsmanship for the Luxury World will be the first theme, where real case studies will be presented, in trying to mirror the meaning of exclusivity and authenticity in a luxury interior. Gondomar’s own Mayor Marco Martins’s speech will conclude this first day with a glass of Port of Honor.
For the second day, the 21st of June, two more panels will follow. The first one, Design as a Driving Force for Local Craftsmanship, will bring a closer look to the surfacing of the design-maker, which comprises a journey from the past to present days, where creativity and innovation are celebrated, while still respecting ancient traditions and preserving our craftsmanship heritage.
The last panel of the two-day Luxury Design & Craftsmanship Summit, on the other hand, takes us on a journey to the design world from a different point of view. Luxury Branding: The Behind the Scenes Story will bring the speakers to debate the relationship between these classic techniques and how they’re used for some of the most recent marketing campaigns of leading luxury businesses.
